The Labour Market Task Group of the Cyprus Dialogue Forum, announces the launch of the Labour Market Guide, a shared knowledge resource designed to provide comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date economic and labour market data from across the island. The Guide is an open trilingual resource, freely accessible to anyone. It is presented without interpretation, ensuring that all users have equal access to the data necessary for their analysis.
The creation of the Guide marks a significant milestone. For the first time stakeholders across both communities have access to an all-island resource that compiles and presents data in an accessible format. While the guide is not meant as a comparative data resource, it is a first step in allowing access to information that was previously fragmented or inaccessible, allowing for more informed discussions.
The Guide is more than just a data repository. It is concrete evidence of the commitment of organisations to work together inclusively. By bridging knowledge gaps and fostering transparency, the guide contributes meaningfully to the peace process, offering a tangible example of how collaboration can generate concrete outcomes for all.
The Labour Market Task Group is a dialogue among key organisations from both communities which include trade unions, employer / professional associations and political parties. The work of the Task Group is supported through the project “Strengthening collaborative spaces for dialogue and shared knowledge creation”, implemented by the Cyprus Dialogue Forum and funded by the European Union.
In the context of this dialogue stakeholder organisations recognise that the viability of a peace agreement is based not only on the development of legal and political governance frameworks but also on the preparation and planning of an implementation process aimed at improving economic and social cohesion between the two communities to enable a vibrant and healthy labour market to function. While labour-related issues are addressed in part within the formal negotiation process, stakeholders acknowledge that these are relatively limited. A major concern is that a concrete and viable process for labour market integration and implementation is not within the agenda of the formal process.
The efforts of the Labour Market Task Group do not aim to replace the formal process but to act in a complementary manner to contribute and support the efforts the reach a solution to the Cyprus problem. Within this context, the Task Group is committed to work towards their shared vision that serves the prospect of integrating the labour market as well as creating options for addressing problems and challenges in the process.
The Labour Market Guide was introduced at a public event held at the Ledra Palace Hotel on 26 February 2025. The event benefited from a large audience, including stakeholders from both communities and the international community.
The launch of the Labour Market Guide is only the beginning. It will serve as a living resource, regularly updated with new data and insights to support fact-based dialogue among stakeholders.
