Study Visit to Switzerland Day 3

05 Mar 2025 - Updates

On the third day of the visit, focus turns to the cantonal level with insightful discussions in the Canton of Bern, with the Canton's executive and parliament.

Engaging exchanges with Mr. Ammann, Member of the Government of the Canton of Bern, and Mr. Moser, Commissioner for the Government Council for external relations provided valuable perspectives on the importance of cooperation—across levels of government, between cantons, and within them.

A fascinating discussion with Mr. Trees, Secretary General of the Canton of Bern Parliament, shed light on the role and functioning of the Cantonal parliament, highlighting the system of checks and balances - an aspect deeply embedded in its political structures, in a system which is constantly evolving.

Deeply honoured by the warm welcome extended by the plenary of the Parliament of the Canton of Bern to the political actors participating in the Cyprus Dialogue Forum—a recognition of the importance of their cooperation, embodying the spirit of dialogue and collaboration that lies at the heart of the Swiss system. Also a very special thanks to the President of the Parliament of the Canton of Bern, Dominique Bühler for meeting with the participants.

As the study visit continues, the Swiss experience offers valuable insights on institutional cooperation and political balance, always with the understanding that each system is shaped by its own historical and political context.

The study visit is organised under the context of the Cyprus Dialogue Forum and attended by political actors from both communities. The study visit is co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
